  • Examples
    • Srila Prabhupad
    • Dhruva Maharaj
    • Prahlad Maharaj
    • Narada Muni
  • BG 3.30. Spiritual duties should be followed as if a military discipline.
  • The satisfaction of the self-realized spiritual master is the secret of advancement in spiritual life.
  • Spiritual master should be approached and served with submission and humility.
    • When a disciple with these qualities serves his spiritual master, success is guaranteed.
    • That is the secret of success in spiritual life.
  • Before asking questions to a respected personality, one should first offer respect and then ask his question.
  • One should not accept Guru as a fashion.
    • Also, if a person wears dress like a sadhu, if he talks like a sadhu. we should not consider him as a Guru.
    • Who is a bonafide Spiritual Master? one who comes in a bonafide line of disciplic succession, starting from the Lord Himself?
  • We need to approach Spiritual master like a child running for his mother.
    • Krsna se tomar, krsna dita paro, tomar shakati aache.
    • Ami to Kangal, Krsna Krsna Boli, Dhayi tava pache pache.
    • The spiritual master has to be approached in a desperate mood to understand.
      • The absolute truth.
      • What is my relationship with the Lord?
      • How can i re-establish my relationship with Him?
      • What is the process for understanding that relationship?
  • Prabhupad made understanding of Bhagavad Gita so simple.
    • and Devotees made it further simplified. that is the mercy of devotees.
    • This is like Ph.D. knowledge and we are first-grade students. Still, the knowledge has been explained in a way that is understandable for us. That is the greatness of Prabhupad.
    • But one problem comes with it.
      • e.g. when we hear that there is no sun, no moon in Goloka Vrindavan, we start to imagine. and we start to preach others like we know.
    • We should not show off others that we know, because we don't know. So we should be honest with others.
    • We should tell others, that i don't know. I am just repeating the words of my spiritual master. then it will have the right effect on the person who is hearing it.
  • Krsna says, if you want to know this tattva, I am giving you one more secret.
    • The bonafide Spiritual Master, he can give it to you very easily. In no time, if he wants, he can give you the knowledge in one moment without any effort.
    • He can make you self realized in one moment by his mercy without any effort.
    • Yasya prasadat bhagvat prasado, yasya aprasadat na gati kuto api.
    • O' Spiritual Master, By your mercy, I will get the mercy of Lord Krsna. But if I do not have your mercy, I am doomed.
    • The Spiritual master is the key personality, is the mentor, is the guardian of our whole existence.
    • Not because I am saying this, not because the spiritual master is saying this, because this is the conclusion of all the scriptures.
  • Sakshat Haritvena samasta shastrer.
    • The spiritual master is as important as Krsna.
    • He is as Good as Krsna
    • In fact, He is Krsna, in another form.
    • So that is the importance of Spiritual Master.
    • If spiritual master is satisfied with you, Krsna is already satisfied with you. We may not realize or experience it. But if the spiritual master is satisfied, then you can be assured that Krsna is satisfied.
    • All of our activities should be done very very carefully..., very very earnestly, with eagerness, submission. Vando Mui savadhana mate
    • Accepting the spiritual master is the first step in spiritual life.
    • without this step, it is like solving a great mathematical puzzle with the first wrong step.
  • What is beyond this, what is the next step?
  • Before going to that, we must understand the great fortune we are enjoying right now.
    • What is that great fortune, that we are in touch with spiritual master right now?
    • How great is this fortune,
    • When Rupa Goswami meeting Lord Chaitanya at Prayag, Lord Chaitanya was extremely pleased with Rupa Goswami. So knowledge was flowing like a river. In the initial part, there is a famous verse.
    • Ei Rupe
    • Bramhand bhramite Konu Bhagavan jeev.
    • Guru Krishna Prasade pabe bhakti late beej
    • We just keep rotating up and down in this Brmahanda
      • Life after life
      • Yuga after yuga
      • Kalpa after Kalpa
      • From unlimited time.
    • In this rotation all around the Bramhanda, a fortunate soul is one who finds a spiritual master, is THE MOST FORTUNATE PERSON.
    • Some of us may think that oh, i got an excellent job, i am so fortunate.
    • Some of us may say, oh I have excellent health, I am so fortunate.
    • Some of us may say, oh I have an excellent family, I am so fortunate.
    • Some of us may say, oh I have the most wonderful house, I am so fortunate.
    • These are not fortunes, they are nothing in comparison to that single fortune of coming in contact with a spiritual master.
    • And what is the power of that genuine bonafide spiritual master?
    • He has the power of Krsna.
  • In Srimad Bhagavatam, the power of a pure devotee is described.
    • Dhruva Maharaj had received the mercy of Narada Muni, because of his complete honesty. We have to be very honest in front of the spiritual master.
    • O, Narada Muni, I understand what you are saying, and what you are saying is good for me, I know that. but at this time, my heart does not accept it. i am a kshatriya.
    • So Dhruva Maharaj was given a mantra, by which within 6 months he could achieve perfection.
    • In 6 months, his weight could tilt the earth, this is the power of a devotee. He can tilt the earth.
    • Srila Prabhupad also has tilted the earth.
    • Prabhupad actually tilted the common psyche of people. People were thinking that spirituality is something just to read and talk about it. But he could actually show to the world, that just by chanting the holy name and following this process of bhakti, no matter how degraded you are, you can immediately by purified. And you can become pure Vaishnavas.
    • That is the power of the spiritual master.
    • Krishna se Tomar, Krishna dite Paro, dhayi tava pache pache.
      • We should run after him
    • That desperation has to be there in our life.
    • We should be desperate to have spiritual master, and when you have spiritual master, then understanding that Bhagya, the greatest fortune that we have, we should never take it lightly, and serve the spiritual master with utmost sincerity.
  • Prabhupad is making this statement,
    • That disciple should serve the spiritual master like a menial servant.
    • how is a menial servant?  if you give him a salary or don't have, you give him food or don't give, still he does all services.
  • By nature, a spiritual master is very kind.
    • A kind person is pleased with little service also. If you do little work also, he feels that you have done a lot.
    • When we are serving very sincerely, he is very pleased and gives all the knowledge from the inside
    • Yasya deve para bhaktir
    • One who has satisfied the spiritual master, all the imports of Vedas are completely released within his heart.
    • That is the importance of this particular shloka.
  • There is nothing deeper than this
    • This is the deepest.
    • It may appear as the first step.
    • But this first step is THE STEP
    • Because if you know all of the scripture. If you know all 4 Vedas and Bhagavatam by heart. you might be the greatest pandit like devananda pandit, who can recite all the shlokas.  But if you do not have mercy of the spiritual master, it is all useless.
    • Prabhupad describes it is like empty bullets, it just makes the sounds, but it does not have any effect.  So you may quote the shlokas, you may speak the same language, but it will not have any effect.
      • But if somebody who has satisfied the spiritual master, he can change the world. Like Prabhupada did. Like HH Radhanath Swami Maharaj is doing. Wherever he goes, people flocks, just by hearing him, just by seeing him, just by being in contact with Him, people want to change there lives, they want to become sincere, they want to dedicate their lives.
      • Krishan shakti bina nahi tomar pravartan.
      • Krishna shakti enters his heart, and that spiritual master can change millions of lives.  Therefore he is known as Jagan Guru.
      • This is a very important Shloka in our life.
      • How we should approach the SM, that we should learn from great authorities.
      • Our authority of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
  • How Lord Chaitanya approached his Spiritual Master?
    • His Qualifications.
    • Greatest scholar.
    • Most perfect body, most beautiful body
    • Highest intelligence and IQ
    • Mastered all Vedic sciences at the tender age of 12 years.
    • He defeated the greatest Pandit, who has defeated all other Pundits (Digvijayi pandit)
    • No one dared to challenge him.
    • Such a person, when Ishwara puri came to Navadrip, how he behaved?
    • He served him
    • Washed his Lotus feet
    • Massaged him
    • Gave him gifts
    • When Ishwara Puri praised him as a great Pandit and requested him to edit his book.
    • Lord Chaitanya Answered
    • No No No, this is not my qualification,  you are a pure devotee, I am simply a grammar scholar. There is no comparison in a pure devotee and a scholar. so whatever you write is perfect.
    • But because Ishwara Puri insisted, he read the whole book and suggested a change in 1 shloka.
    • When Ishwara Puri told that what he has written is correct and Lord Chaitanya is wrong.
    • Chaitanya Mahaprabhu accepted that I am wrong.
    • In this humility, He accepted Ishwara Puri as his Spiritual Master.
    • Eating a little dust  (मिट्टी ) from the place of Ishwara Puri's birth daily.
    • This is how Mahaprabhu treated his Spiritual Master.
    • He would serve the Godbrothers of his spiritual master on par with his spiritual master.
  • That is the mood we need to inculcate in our lives, recognizing our great fortune.
  • When we have great fortune and you just wash it off. then we are the greatest fools in this world. we cannot just let it go, we should make the best use of this opportunity that we have received.
  • By Krsna's grace, we have received a spiritual master who is in the line of Krsna, direct disciplic succession from Krsna, He has all the bonafide qualities of a spiritual master.  what more you can want in life. This is the most you can have. Rest everything will automatically follow.
  • This is the deepest possible fortune.
